When you transport large amounts of sand, stones and rocks, we cannot do without an important means of transportation, that is, the dump trailer. However, during use, accidents may occur due to improper use, so during use, it is necessary to do a good job of checking all aspects.
Components of a dump trailer
The dump trailer mainly includes the following important components:
1. Hydraulic cylinder
2. Bucket
3. Tire
4. Axle
5. Suspension
These accessories have an important impact on the transportation safety of the dump trailer, so before transportation, be sure to carefully check whether these accessories can operate normally and whether they are old and damaged. Regularly check tire pressure, lifting hydraulic system and suspension system to ensure efficient operation of the dump trailer. Lubricate pins and bushings to keep the mechanism running smoothly. Make sure that maintenance does not block the space on both sides and bottom of the bed, which is essential for the free flow of loaded materials.
How a dump trailer works
1. Hydraulic system: The hydraulic system consists of a hydraulic pump, hydraulic oil, control valve and hydraulic cylinder, and is the heart of the dump trailer. The hydraulic pump is usually started using a control panel or remote control on the tractor, and is driven by the tractor's power take-off (PTO) or a separate electric or gas engine. When started, the pump pressurizes the hydraulic oil, which then enters the hydraulic cylinder.
2. Hydraulic cylinder: The hydraulic cylinder is usually installed on the front frame and used as a lifting mechanism
3. Raise the trailer compartment: To unload the cargo, you need to start the lift and open the rear door. When it is raised to a certain angle, the cargo will dump out
4. Lower the trailer compartment: After unloading the cargo, you need to restore the box to its original position. At this time, you need to lower the front end and close the rear door when the box drops to its original position.
How to use a dump trailer safely
Correct operation of a dump trailer can not only ensure the safety of the driver, but also maintain the good performance of the trailer and extend its service life. To properly load and unload a dump trailer, the following factors must be considered:
1. Total load weight
2. Load weight distribution
3. Proper tongue weight
4. Degree of load fixation
Based on the above points, the following points should be noted when loading and unloading a dump trailer:
1. Park the tractor and dump trailer on a flat and hard road when loading
Good road conditions are essential for safe loading and unloading. Loading cargo on an inflexible or uneven road is likely to cause the trailer to tip over. Even if your cargo is properly distributed in the weight of the load, it will become uneven on uneven roads. If the front half is overloaded, the hydraulic cylinder will be under too much pressure, which may cause overload. If there is too much pressure on the rear load, it will be difficult to maintain stability at high speeds.
2. Keep the center of gravity as low as possible
Place the heavy objects on the flatbed or axle. Additional items should be loaded to keep the weight evenly distributed on the left and right sides and maintain proper traction. Because the axle bears the main weight of the trailer, the rest of the weight is carried by the tractor hitch. Many drivers don't know that they don't need to fully raise the trailer to empty it. In the case of incomplete lifting, the center of gravity of the heavy load can be kept lower from the ground. The possibility of overturning in this condition is much smaller than when it is fully raised, which is safer. If the driver can determine how high the load can be effectively dumped, there is no need to lift the box completely.
3. Avoid overloading
During the loading process, be careful not to overload. If overloading occurs, the hydraulic cylinder and the box may be damaged when dumping. If the weight is seriously overloaded, the hydraulic cylinder may not work properly, and the overloaded part of the cargo will need to be manually unloaded. If it is a large transportation project, it can be transported in batches.
4. Try to keep the load weight evenly distributed
When loading cargo, it is necessary to consider the load ratings of the axles, tractor hooks, and tires, and try to ensure that no axle is overloaded. Overloading is likely to cause safety hazards.
5. Transport transportable goods as required
Dump trailers can only be used to transport goods such as sand, coal, etc., and cannot be used to transport other goods, such as livestock
Safety tips when unloading:
1. Before starting to unload, be sure to align the hooks first, that is, the tractor and the dump trailer are in a straight line
2. Observe the ground before unloading: no slopes, stable ground, no holes, make sure there are no obstacles (walls, wires, etc.) when opening the tailgate, please put yourself in a safe position away from the dump body. Before lifting the dump body, check for overhead wires and other obstacles. Before lifting the car body, also make sure that the rear door is open and secured with a door stop.
3. Keep a safe distance when unloading side by side.
4. If the trailer is equipped with air suspension, be sure to deflate the air suspension to lower its height
5. Stay in the cabin and always wear your seat belt when unloading.
6. Wait until the dump truck is completely lowered back to the correct position before leaving.
7. There is no need to increase the engine speed when unloading, and the unloading process cannot be interrupted
8. Ensure that the cylinder working pressure does not exceed the rated value
9. Regularly check and replace engine oil and other related items
10. Regularly check the condition of the hydraulic hose, the connecting hose between the cylinder and the hydraulic system, etc. Regularly apply lubricating oil to the fulcrum and bolts
